Overview

A new trekking trail named ‘The Guerrilla Trek’ has recently been launched, including the release of a Guerrilla Trekking Guide book and trekking map.

The book written by Alonzo Lyons retraces the path adopted by the Maoist guerrillas starting from Beni in Myagdi District, towards Rolpa and Rukum further West. Trekking along the Guerrila Trek gives hikers the chance to see routes and hideouts used by the guerrillas during the conflict (1996-2006).

In spite of what the name might suggest, the area is very peaceful nowadays. The Guerrilla Trek passes through lush valleys in the shadow of the mighty Himalaya, including the impressive Dhaulagiri (8167 m). It passes dramatic waterfalls, lakes and the country’s only hunting reserve in Dhorpatan. The views from Jalja La, a pass at 3386 m, are stunning and definitely compete with crowded Poon Hill. One can also see a whole range of mountains; especially the Dhaulagiri (8167 m) and Gurja Himal (7193 m) are very close.

From Beni up until Dhorpatan, the trail overlaps with the Lower Trail of The Great Himalaya Trail. At Dhorpatan the GHT trek diverts towards the north to Dunai while the Guerrilla trek takes its course further westwards to Musikot in Rukum.

Daily Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Kathmandu

Arrival in Kathmandu at Tribhuvan International Airport. Welcome by our representatives and welcome dinner at Nepali Bhansa Ghar and transfer to the hotel on car/van/bus (depends on the size of group). Overnight at hotel (B)

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing

Sightseeing around Kathmandu valley and preparation for the Guerrilla Trekking. Overnight at hotel (B)

Day 3: Drive to Beni (830m/8 hrs)

Drive from Kathmandu to Beni (830m/8 hours by bus). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 4: Trek to Takam (1665m/6 hrs)

Trek back from Beni to Takam (1665m/6 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 5: Trek to Lamsung (2250m/6 hrs)

Trek from Takam to Lamsung (2250m/6 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 6: Trek to Gurjaghat (3020m/7 hrs)

Trek from Lamsung to Gurjaghat (3020m/7 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 7: Trek to Dhorpatan (2860m/5 hrs)

Trek from Gurjaghat to Dhorpatan (2860m/5 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 8: Trek to Nisi Dhor (5 hrs)

Trek back from Dhorpatan to Nisi Dhor (5 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 9: Trek to Tallo Sera (7 hrs)

Day 10: Trek to Rujhikhola (6 hrs)

Trek back from Tallo Sera to Rujhikhola (6 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 11: Trek to Thabang (5 hrs)

Trek back from Rujhikhola to Thabang (5 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 12: Trek to Jajala (5 hrs)

Trek back from Thabang to Jajala (5 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 13: Trek to Jelbang (6 hrs)

Trek back from Jajala to Jelbang (6 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 14: Trek to Sulichaur (6 hrs)

Trek back from Jelbang to Sulichaur (6 hours). Overnight at lodge (B.L.D)

Day 15: Drive back to Kathmandu (13 hrs)

Drive back from Sulichaur to Kathmandu (13 hours by bus). Overnight at hotel (B)

Day 16: Final Departure

Transfer to the Tribhuvan International Airport for Final Departure. (B)
