Nepal has just created history by hosting the first-ever fashion show at the highest ever altitude in the world. Titled as the Mount Everest Fashion Runaway, the said event was held at a height of 5340 m at Kalapathar, which is near the Everest Base Camp. With this, Nepal created a new Guinness World Record for hosting such a grand event at that high an altitude.
As per reports, the fashion show was part of the Visit Nepal Year 2020 campaign of the Nepal Tourism Board. To participate in this event, models from across the globe flew in. In fact, apart from Nepal, models from other countries, such as Italy, Finland, Singapore, and Sri Lanka also took part in the event.
The primary motive behind hosting an event like this at such a high altitude was to raise awareness regarding climate change, and also boost Nepal’s image in the tourism circuit as a destination for all activities.

Reportedly, to ensure that the event is organised and all the things stay under control, a team of 48 people started trekking from Lukla to Kalapathar on January 18, 2020. During their journey, the team also made sure that they used bio-degradable clothes, detergent, shampoo, and also used solar technology to limit pollution. The entire journey has also turned into a reality show that will be telecast in April and May this year.
The event was graced by the secretary of Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, and the Senior Director of Nepal Tourism Board, among others.
As per reports, the models showcased designs from the clothing line of KASA, and the materials used in designing those clothes were Nepali Pashmina and yak wool.
